A vision given to the founders Mike & Pat Karl over 49 years ago to help the poor and homeless is what brought this rescue mission to Sebring, Florida. The year was 1976 that the New Testament Church and Mission began the works that the Lord had envisioned for them. To reach out to the down and out, addicted, hungry, homeless, loss, lonely and destitute.
The property belonged to the Sebring Packing Company. Mike Karl met with the owners Woodrow Harshman & Floyd Schumacher. The famous lines, " I don't want to buy it, rent it or lease it " quickly lead to multiple visits, letters and much more persistence before they agreed to allow us to use the property. It was a 10 year agreement on a handshake that if we failed to do what we said we would do, we would walk away. Well we may have tried a time or two but, never have given up on the dream. In 1987 they signed over the deed to the New Testament Church & Mission.
The Vision has continued to grow. We have fed over 3 million meals, housed over 900,000 individuals and have given out more food baskets than we can account for. When asked the purpose of the Mission, Rev. Mike Karl replied: "To love the unlovable, the unwanted; to put goals in their lives physically, mentally and spiritually; to show them that with God in their lives all things are possible." So that's what we do today. We help everyone to our best ability with the resources we have.
